Competitions

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Supermileage Competition provides engineering and technology students with a challenging design project.

About the competitions

The project involves the development and construction of a single-person, fuel-efficient vehicle. Vehicles are powered by a small four-cycle engine. All vehicles must be designed to run a specified course. The winning team is the one which achieves the highest combined kilometers per liter (miles per gallon) rating and points awarded for design. Students have the opportunity to set a world fuel economy record and increase public awareness of fuel economy.

Shell Eco-marathon challenges student teams from around the world to design, build, and test ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. In essence, the winners are the teams whose vehicle travels the furthest using the least amount of energy. The events spark debate about the future of mobility and inspire young engineers to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency.
